Micromax is not ready to keep calm with their Yu series phones. That’s why they are here with yet another specs-rich phone, Canvas Silver 5. They claim it to be the slimmest phone made ever.

But Gionee also released a phone with the exact thickness of Silver 5 in 2014 that was Gionee S 5.1. So, we specify it as the thinnest phone in 2015.

It hasn’t launched yet. According to the details, we gathered, this phone will be available in this month itself. Just check this review before taking your wallet out.

Micromax has put a great effort in making this phone looks good. They are really keen in design and ergonomics for a while now. I am pretty certain that Micromax Canvas Silver 5 will be a stylish gadget you owned ever without any additional accessories.

They kept the design simple. And it works perfectly. There will be two colour variants, white (with a golden back) and black.

Thickness is 5.1 mm and has a weight of nearly 97 grams. This phone makes Gionee S 5.1 slightly shy which has 0.55 gram more weight.

The phone is manufactured from aircraft grade aluminium, that’s one of the major reasons for the weight drop.

Micromax made this phone with a 4.5 inches AMOLE Display with 720 p resolution.

The power button is placed on the top- right edge of the device while the volume rocker is on the left edge and you can see a SIM card slot on the right edge as well. The edges are metallic which adds beauty to the device. The 3.5 mm audio jack and micro- USB port are situated on the bottom.

On the front, there is a 5 MP camera for taking selfies and groupfies. The 8 MP rear camera, LED flash and Micromax branding are there on the back.

There are 3 backlit capacitive buttons as well.

Features

I think you judged what the processor of this phone is, didn’t you? Everybody who knows about Micromax Canvas series may think that this phone too has a MediaTek processor. But it is wrong.

This phone is power-packed with 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 64 bit chipset. Snapdragon is considered to be the superior even though it is not the case now. 410 is an entry level 64 SoC from snapdragon which supports 4G LTE.

Silver 5 has an Adreno 306 GPU to enhance visual appeal. I think, this specs with 2 GB DDR 3 RAM is enough to give you a decent performing device.

It has a 16 GB ROM, out of which about 11 GB is available to the user. The sad part is that you can’t expand the internal memory with an external SD card. So you have to be satisfied with what company gives.

The OS is stock Android (Lollipop 5.0) with default UI on top. They never did much customization on the UI. It is user- friendly and responsive.

There are an 8 MP rear and a 5 MP front camera. The camera interface looks like a normal one. But if you explore its feature deeply, you can find many manual modes, options and settings as well. Even in a low light condition, the rear camera can give you noiseless pictures to a great extent.

The 5 MP front camera is more than enough to capture a good quality selfie in proper light conditions.

Back camera can be used to record the full definition videos as per the details from the manufacturer.

The device has a great design and it will impress you with the first look itself. I forgot to mention that this phone indeed has corning gorilla glass 3 which makes it avoid scratches and minor physical damages.

Performance

Considering the price, we can’t expect a great performance. The SnapDragon chipset which comes with this device is an entry level one. And the 64 SoC may make the phone difficult to breath.

So, if you are a heavy smartphone user, keep distance from this Micromax kid. Maybe this phone will not respond if you keep multiple apps opened.

But for a moderate user, this phone is more than enough. It can run usual apps very well.

Battery Life

The phone has a 2000 mAh battery. I know your eyebrows became a question mark now.

As you guessed, this is not an ideal battery capacity for a phone with octa core 64 bit SoC. As the number of cores increases, the device pulls more energy to carry out tasks. So, you have to carry the charger with you every time.

No worries, if you use the phone occasionally during your journey. Otherwise, a power bank will be a perfect companion for this phone.

Price and Availability

Another topic of concern is here. Micromax was the king of budget smartphones loaded with awesome specs. But this time, they shed that attribute with this Canvas Silver 5.

This phone costs about Rs. 17999!! OMG!!

Yeah, the remarkable feature in this phone is nothing other than the design. Will you be ready to pay such a large price just for the design?

If you are ready, I bet you will showcase it.

It will be available on all major e- commerce websites. According to the details we got, the launch date is 28th July.

Micromax Canvas Silver 5; Features in a Nutshell

  • 5 AMOLED display with corning gorilla glass 3
  • 2 GHz SnapDragon 64 bit chipset
  • 2 GB DDR 3 RAM
  • 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera (does its job pretty well)
  • 16 GB internal storage
  • 2000 mAh battery
  • 3G and 4G support
  • Very thin
  • Great design and easy to operate with one hand.

It’s time to be brutal.

Cons

  1. Really overrated
  2. You can get a 1080 P display within this price range
  3. No external SD support
  4. Poor Battery Life (phones with 3000 mAh battery are available under 18k)
  5. For a 64 bit SoC, 2 GB RAM may not be sufficient
  6. No dual SIM support

Should You Buy Silver 5?

I am not recommending this to you, only because of the high price. But you are very much in love with Micromax and you have enough money, just go for it.

Bear in mind that you will get cool phones within the price range of 18k.

Anyway, it is your choice to buy or not.
