
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) that has been running 3G services for close to one and half years In the region has got a competitor in Tata DOCOMO, the GSM service provider of Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL). Tata DOCOMO became the first ptivate operator to launch 3G services in Punjab and Haryana after the award of spectrum on Tuesday. The services were simultaneously launched in other circles — Madhya Pardesh-Chhattisgarh, UP (West), Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
THE BSNL has around 15000 and 2.25 lakh 3G customers in Chandigarh and Punjab, respectively. Tata DOCOMO’s network, set up with the assistance of Japanese firm NTT DOCOMO, supports high speed Internet access with a speed of up to21 Mbps and also supports high-definition voice on calls.
Tata is offering video SMS, Video- streaming, mobile television, ultra-high speed data transfers and route finder under the 3G network.
Comparing tariff with BSNL, Tata DOCOMO chief operating officer Aditya Gupta said, ”Our services are affordable. Different services have different costs.”
When asked about slashing rales in wake of launch by other operators, he said they would remain competitive.
BSNL offers 70 paisa/min for local video call, Rs 1/min for STD video call and data usage is Rs .01/10 Kilobyte.
